• This comprehensive book belongs in the library of every quilt history fan and anyone who loves old quilts. It is a beautiful and fascinating book written in clear language understandable by anyone. The many hundreds of color pictures are clear and well produced. The expertise of the various authors is obvious. For data fans there are several analyses dealing with construction features, dates, where the quilts were made, types of quilts, etc., etc. But the detailed descriptions of many dozens of quilts are the most compelling feature of the book. They are followed by Galleries illustrating additional examples of specific types of quilts with smaller photos of individual quilts and short descriptions of each. All together most or all of the International Quilt Study Center & Museum's five hundred and ninety-four American quilts from 1760-1870 are pictured and described.
