- I've read and used other training manuals in the past, but this time around I have an exceptionally smart pup on my hands and wanted to consult a new resource. The book was a fairly quick read, and the techniques I learned are working wonders! At 11 weeks, my pup had mastered "sit," "lay down," "stay," and "come." I worked really hard to be consistent, even with the tips I initially second-guessed (like only saying a command once); and it's been amazing to see the consistency pay off rather quickly.
Kaelin clearly knows her stuff; her methods are both logical and effective. For instance, I purchased and intended to use a clicker for training, but I went with Kaelin's suggestion of a clicker word instead. My pup is so responsive to that one word, and I'm never caught without my training tool. With this book and my treat pouch, I feel like I've been set up for success. The dog of my dreams is in the works! - I just adopted a puppy and I was a bit overwhelmed with the options available! Which one would work? I chose this book based on its reviews and it was a great choice! It is easy to read, easy to follow and it does not sugar coat how intensive it can be to train a dog. It is realistic and I appreciated that! The methods suggested are easy to follow and work!
- This is a good book for a new puppy owner. It covers all the basics including things to have before even bringing the puppy home. While we've had puppies before, it's easy to forget some of the things that come with a new puppy. I wish we had the book sooner so that we didn't develop some bad habits with our pups, but the book has been helpful in suggestions. The book is simple, which is why I think it's good. It does not dwell into a lot of detail on a lot of subjects, but it's a good guide for owning a puppy, particularly for someone new to having a puppy. Also, we bought both the paperback and versions. It's nice that my wife and I can read at the same time, but our pups also thought the paperback book was a chew toy, so it has a few teeth marks.
- This book is a MUST HAVE for any dog owner!! Kaelin’s training style is unlike anything I’ve experienced, and I have had 5 years of intense training with a hyper-anxious and fearful rescue pup. My dog’s behavior was so unusual to so many trainers, and it wasn’t until we started working with Kaelin that things just MADE SENSE. Her 5 Golden Rules truly are gold - they make an immense difference and are simple to implement. You will not be disappointed with this book, you will feel so empowered and able to connect with your furry best friend.
Thank you, Kaelin, for sharing this with the world. It has made all of the difference in my pups life. My dog has such incredible focus now, is immediate in her response to commands, and is so comfortable in her own skin! I never thought she would be at a level where I was able to bring her out and introduce her to strangers and her not be reactive. Today, we have a method of appropriate introductions, and with the 5 Golden Rules my relationship with her is so incredible that she doesn’t feel the need to ‘take the lead’ anymore.
It’s an amazing book, by an amazing trainer, give it a go and have the dog of your dreams!!! - I have had dogs my entire life and have read many dog training books. I think The Puppy Training Handbook is well put together guide to the ins and outs of what it takes to own a dog. It is tailored to someone who has never had a dog and needs to know every detail. It's easy to read with limited fluff. I highly recommend for anyone who is new to owning a dog or needs help with their troublesome little pup.
- I started by following Kaelin’s posts on Instagram, which are SO helpful visually, before I got my pup. Once I got him I found myself wanting more details on training so I ordered this book and WOW, Kaelin has fantastic advice and so far everything she recommends is absolutely working for us. I have had my puppy for less than a week and he hasn’t had any house accidents yet and has almost mastered “sit†commands. I highly recommend this book for dog owners of any age or experience!
- I wish I knew to read this book even before getting our new pup! We have a 4 month old black lab. This book really helped us communicate with our puppy more effectively. It gave us the tools needed to have a very well behaved and well trained dog. We are well on our way! It’s an easy read with great pointers. I go back and refer to her training techniques, when needed. Thank you so much for helping us with our furry boy!
